This modification is expected to lower construction costs and optimize the use of smaller or uniquely shaped lots, thereby facilitating the development of more affordable housing options. Additionally, the new code simplifies the process for homeowners to convert existing single-family homes into duplexes, provided one unit is 1,200 square feet or less. Safety measures, such as interconnected smoke detectors between units, are mandated to ensure resident safety.

The revision process was a collaborative effort involving over 100 volunteers from the construction community, including contractors, engineers, and architects.
